Preparation of the project proposal to be submitted to the Call for Proposals of the Asia Link programme. The project proposal is called ID.E.E.ASIA. ID.E.E.ASIA is a cross-cultural educational initiative in Interaction Design. Through the collaborative work of researchers, lecturers and post-graduate students from 4 different institutions, the project aims to understand the current role of technology in public spaces and forsee future opportunities. The interdisciplinary consortium consists of Scuola Superiore di Studi Universitari e di Perfezionamento Sant'Anna (Coordinator, Italy), K3 Malm University (Sweden), King Mongkut's University of Technology Thonburi (Thailand), Chulalongkorn University (Thailand), the associated partners Interaction Design Institute Ivrea (Italy), and JMAC Asia and Europe (Thailand, China, Japan, Korea, Italy, Sweden). In the two-year programme the project will perform (1) Management and Coordination, (2) Web Services, (3) Identification of External Stakeholders, (4) Cultural Exploration, (5) Human Resources Development and (6) Dissemination. ID.E.E.ASIA begins in Thailand and aims at replicating self-sustained initiatives in other Asia-Link countries.

The project foresees a series of activities focused on the following steps:

-Framework definition. The general context of the investigation is public space. A specific public space will not be defined up till this moment, where through some preliminary research it will be possible to have a general overview on public spaces and on how the use of technology have changed people's perception on them. Parallel to that, the "activities" people do carry out in those spaces will be mapped, as well as the technologies used to carry them out. Expressions of interest to ID.E.E.ASIA by companies will be promoted and significantly considered.

-Specific context definition. All the partners should decide together, through a first "working session", out of the framework definition results, on which public space they will focus on, in order to carry on with more in depth investigations. So that it will be possible to define the specific context and the specific activity to be further investigated. (i.e. : working at the train station, or listening to music in the street, )

-Specific context exploration. It will then be time to carry out some activities on the field and focus on how people behave in the identified specific context (user observation, ethnographic research, interviews, etc.): which actions they can do, which actions they will to do. These activities will be carried out by the 4 groups in their own countries.

-Academic exchange. Training missions will allow the lecturers/researchers to spend time and work with the other partners and to go on site for learning new methods that could be then transferred to their students. Dedicated workshops will be organised, in which the students involved will focus on designing scenarios for possible future development for the already existing technologies in public spaces, for possible new technologies to be used, possible alternative uses of the technologies which exists in public spaces but for some reasons are not used yet, or finally possible new applications of technology in public spaces, in order to have a real cross cultural exchange.

-Results sharing Results of the various activities will be shared in different ways. Meetings and working sessions will be organised for the lecturers and researchers to work together, while the web site will be a major tool for on line work sharing between the academic teams (postgraduate students, researchers and lecturers).

-Results dissemination. Exhibition, publication, video-docs, newsletters, website, etc. on the ID.E.E.ASIA experience. This activity is aimed at communicating the activities not only to the academic world, but also to the industrial world, which could then use the process as a user testing sample for their innovations, and therefore might be interested in financially support the activity in the long term.
